How To Properly Detangle Hair
-
Never begin the detangling process on dry hair!
• Saturate the hair with water, leave-in spray or aloe Vera gel/flaxseed gel (if it’s wash day) to begin softening any tangles that are present
• Behind detangling with your fingers first to feel for knots or tangles before using hair tools!
2. Always work in small sections (4 is recommended)
• Working in smaller sections allows you to go through carefully and decreases the chance of missing knots/tangles.
• Working in larger sections can be counterproductive and cause more tangles due to the hair not being properly separated leasing to more frustration & possible breakage!
• It is a good rule of thumb to twist up each section as you Detangle to avoid reintroducing tangles once moving to a new section.
3. Always start from tip and work your way to the root.
• Gently detangling from the ends first safely allows tangles to be removed.
• Starting from the root or middle pushes all the knots to one area causing a dense network of tangles that are impenetrable.
4. Choose proper detangling tools
• If you choose to use hair tools and not finger detangle it is important to use a wide tooth comb or a flexible brush with bristles specifically designed to detangle hair.
• Small tooth combs are a recipe for disaster and will always lead to broken hair!!!!!
