What Should My Wash Day Look Like?

What Should My Wash Day Look Like?

  1. Aim to wash your hair every 1-2 weeks (every week preferably) !!!

    2. Begin wash day with a prepoo.

The purpose of a prepoo is to loosen the product currently in the hair allowing you to begin detangling the hair PRIOR to shampooing! This step will prevent unnecessary breakage allowing you to retain length.
    • Some natural options we love are homemade aloe vera gel and flaxseed gel!

    3. Find 3 shampoos that fall within these categories: Cleansing shampoo, Moisturizing shampoo, & a bond repair shampoo (to be alternated based on your hairs current need).

Cleansing shampoo (once a month): Implied by its name, it removes product buildup, and excess oils from the scalp & hair shaft. This allows your strands to take in the moisture from your styling products giving better product performance. Most importantly, it resets the scalp creating a healthy scalp environment which is needed for hair growth!

Moisturizing shampoo (mostly used): Intended to offer a gentler cleaning effect. Offers a good cleanse without stripping the hair shaft of its essentials oils while providing slip to the hair!

Bond repair shampoo (once a month or as needed): Not mentioned enough, but maybe more important than the first two listed, this shampoo is important for rebuilding the strand from the inside out! Natural hair is made of disulfide bonds which not only determine how loose or curly the strand is, but is extremely important for retention. By reinforcing the structural bonds, the shaft becomes less susceptible to breakage due to manipulation & environmental factors.

    4. ALWAYS Deep Condition
    • Its sole purpose is to replenish and provide intense hydration that the hair looses throughout the week and the shampoo process! It also restores elasticity, shine, & strength which regular conditioners don’t offer. It also aids in providing slip to help detangle the hair to prevent breakage!

    5. Finish your wash by drying with a microfiber tower or cotton tshirt! Bath towels are harsh to the hair shaft and causes excess friction leading to breakage!
