New Beginnings
The New Year is officially underway and everyone’s excited for new beginnings and possibilities. You’ve probably made resolutions and perhaps even already broken a few. Once the newness wears off most people fall back into old habits and walk through another year of no fruit. Once they’ve “messed up” they throw in the towel and convince themselves that they can’t start fresh, so they may as well return to what they’re use to. Today I pray this blog offers fresh new perspective if you find yourself in that category.
To start, let’s look at Lamentations 3:22-23 which says “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness”. How comforting is it to know that when we fall God has brand new mercy waiting for us each day! Another beautiful scripture that should encourage us is 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new”. Again, we see here that the believer is constantly being transformed through their faith in Christ! To drive the point home that we don’t have to fall and return to our flesh can be found in Proverbs 24:16 “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity”.
I hope you’re beginning to see that the first of the year or a new month doesn’t mark a new beginning. Each day the Lord blesses us with marks a new beginning. We don’t have to wait for a special day to declare a change or be made new! Everyday we can approach the throne of grace with a repentant heart and humble spirit. The key factor in why we often fall quickly from our goals or resolutions is because it’s focused on our own strength and might. John 15:5 clearly states “I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”. Lastly, one of the most quoted scriptures says it best “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
As I close, my prayer is that these biblical truths have empowered you and offered you encouragement if you’ve already began to feel discouraged about your “new” beginning. I pray you begin to see that each day you choose to actively seek and pursue Christ is a new beginning. It’s time to walk away from the lies of Satan that makes you believe it’s over for you. Write these scriptures on the tablet of your heart and declare them over yourself each time you feel discouraged. I pray this blog blessed you and I pray you have a fruitful new year!
Encouraging Scripture
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. Romans 8:1
