SOMETIMES WE TALK TOO MUCH !

SOMETIMES WE TALK TOO MUCH !

You ever been told “Not everything you think should be spoken” or “Some things should be kept to yourself”? Well the same applies to the spiritual dreams and gifts that God has placed in our hearts! Let’s face it, sometimes we are the cause of our own delay because we can’t keep our mouths closed! Did that last line feel like a punch to the gut? Then you’ve probably found this to be true a time or two in your own life.

Hear me out! I myself know this feeling all too well! We are relational beings and when God has dropped a nugget in our hearts or mind our first instinct is to share it. We’re so excited about the revelation he’s given us or the vision and we just have to tell someone we know. Sharing in itself isn’t a bad thing, however sometimes sharing prematurely hurts us in the end. Not to mention, not everyone we think are there to support us are truly for us! This is why it is so important to ask God for discernment not only for the people in our lives, but also if it’s the right time to share the things he’s shown you.

Let’s take the story of Joseph for example!  Joseph was referred to by his brothers as the “dreamer” because Joseph would share prophetic dreams shown to him by God with his father and brothers. His dreams entailed him being exalted over them and it didn’t help that his earthly father showed favor by gifting him the coat of many colors. Now there’s two things I’d like to focus on here! The first being that although his dreams did in fact come true, him sharing with his brothers led to them initially plotting to kill him until they ultimately decided to sell him into slavery to the Ishmaelites who then sold him to Potiphar an Egyptian officer. The second thing I want to take note of is the spirit of how he shared his dreams with his brother. Although the Bible never says if he shared his dreams in a prideful manner or not, we must also be careful of the spirit we carry when sharing what God has shared with us. A spirit of pride can cause us to be delayed and sometimes never see the promises of God also.

I’ve learned over the years the importance of not sharing things until they’ve come into fruition. I’ve also learned to seek God in prayer to get direction on if I should share and if so who to share it with. One of my favorite memes growing up included the saying “My big mouth has gotten me in trouble again”! As funny as the meme is, it’s usually never funny when we are walking in the consequences of over sharing a thing that God has not called us to walk in yet.

There are many verses in the Bible that states the importance of us taming our tongue. Many deal directly with doing so in anger, but I believe those verses can also be applied to us needing to know when to share and when to say nothing. If you related to anything mentioned here today I want to encourage you to seek God, ask for his discernment, and practice doing the work no one sees until it’s time to walk in the fruit of what God showed you. In a world where everyone wants to convince others they have it altogether and have so much going on it’s easy to overshare just to seem like you too have things going on.

I want to close with this prayer. Father God, thank you for entrusting me with the vision you have spoken over my life! Thank you for equipping me with what I need to carry out your plans for my life. I acknowledge that it is by your wisdom and strength that I am able to do the things that I do. Please give me discernment and direction, show me when to share and when I need to remain silent. I ask that you strengthen my faith to not get ahead of you because of what I see from others all around me! Lord God, I trust your timing! I give you praise in the waiting and will give you the glory when it comes to pass! Thank you Lord. We love you in Jesus Christ name we pray, amen!
