The Benefit Of Surrender

The Benefit Of Surrender

Our need to control every detail of our lives causes us to be weighed down by burdens we were never meant to carry! The solution to many of our problems is quite simple, yet because we listen to the world it seems complicated. After all we were created by a God who knew us before we were in our mother’s womb (Jeremiah 1:5). A God who sits outside of time and is not subject to it! Why then do we find it so hard to surrender ourselves wholeheartedly to him?

I believe for most, our unwillingness to surrender our lives fully to God stems from the fear that the things we aspire after aren’t in his will for our lives. We can’t handle the idea of not having what we want because we live in a society that pushes us to go after our own selfish desires. Often times we will surrender only certain areas of our lives to God while closing off the parts we still want total control over (I myself can attest to this). This leads to failure after failure that eventually causes burnout and bitterness in our relationship with God. The harsh reality is that there’s no one to blame but ourselves. God operates in gentleness and no matter how much he wants to see us surrender fully, he will not barge his way into our lives! He’s fair and loves us enough to offer his way of life, but ultimately it is up to us to accept his invitation (both in surrendering & accepting salvation).

Time and time again God has showed me what a true life of peace looks like when I finally loosen the reins and allow him to fully take control over my life! I find that the things I thought I wanted weren’t actually important at all and they never compare to what God replaces them with. I find more peace and provision when I go after the goals and purpose God has called me to. Even when I’m tired, God renews my strength and gives me the capacity to keep going. He allows me to walk in a newness of life full of unexplainable joy knowing that God is in control. Surrender alleviates the restless mind and in turn gives peace!

In closing, I want you to ask yourself are there some things you need to surrender to God. What areas of your life have you closed off to the father? What would life look like if you decided to go all in and surrender it all to him?

Verses To Encourage You To Surrender

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

My son, give me your heart and let your eyes delight in my ways.” (Proverbs 23:26)

“Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)
